Wood-Fired Cooking Tips
- Preparation is Key: You want to start your fire early and give your oven at least 20-40 minutes to heat up – if you want your food to cook well or a crispy pizza base then you need to ensure the oven is piping hot!
- Let it Breathe: Just like us, fire needs Oxygen, it’s important to stack the wood so that air can flow through and the flames will roar.
- Feed Little & Often: Remember you’re not starting a bonfire, you don’t want to overload the stove all at once, add a bit at a time to maintain a steady heat, without smothering your food.
- Wood = Flavour: Different woods will give off different aromas and add flavour to your food. Hardwoods like Ash, Oak & Beech can give a smoky flavor while fruitwood like Apple, Cherry or Hickory can give off a sweet aroma and add a rich flavor to your food.
